Sales Order Commitment

Does anybody have a way to prevent future ship date orders from soft committing? We do not want to put up a quote because someone has to remember to release the quote on a given day. Blanket orders also need to be released manually and are still soft committing material. Forcing the item into backorder at order entry still creates a soft commit. Any way to place an order and not soft commit until the request date is reached?

It would be in your branch plant constants under the revisions row exit. =
Place a number of days in the Specific Commitment Days.=20

If you look at the b/p constants... you can set the committment based on
branch... however this would be the same for your "normal" orders as well.
so it goes across all order types and not just your sales quotes...

Look at the Branch plant constants Page 1 and review where the commitment days are set at. If at 999 all orders will be soft commited. If you change the days to say 30, then any orders promised to ship beyond 30 days from today, willl be future commited.

You should also review the availability calculation to determine the settings for the future commit.

Beyond looking at the future commit functionality, which has its pros and
cons, another strategy is to ignore soft commits in your availability
calculation and only consider hard commits. The way to do this is to change
the formula for availability at the Branch Constants level.

Then, enter orders, and do the hard commit when you print the pick tickets.
When you print pick tickets select those orders with a requested date of
several days ahead of today or less. Then the hard commit will subtract
from availability.

Just another alternative...

Hi Jerry

The future commitment settings have already been suggested by other forum members, but in addittion I would like to point out that blanket and quote orders do not need to soft commit. If you set the 'commit to qty' processing option in the 'commitment' tab of P4210 to 1 or 2, the qty will not be soft committed and you can exclude these qty buckets from your availability calculation.
