From what I've been able to tell - the bpmbroker falls apart, if you
install more than one path-code on an individual PC.

We build a machine with DV - and it works. We add PY and it stops
working. We fix by copying over the bpmbroker jars... then, when we
do a PY full it breaks again...

Your guess is as good as mine... go figure.

Is there a way to install 'just the BPMBroker'?

I hadn't seen an option or setup for just such a thing

To install/reinstall the BPM Broker :

<Deployment Server>\PeopleSoft\E810\OneWorld Client
Install\ThirdParty\BPMBroker\bpmsetup.exe
