Printer problem

Hello jdelist ,
I hope you can sort this nasty problem out , seems very
unusual and nobody has come across this one before. I have a HP Laserjet 4
printer that prints ok in word, excel, emails
etc... but printing a page through oneworld it does not like it . It
prints out pages and pages of postscript format . I thought it might be a
driver problem , HP only do postscript point and
print bundle drivers which I have already tried and still the same
problem. Please can somebody tell me whether this printer is compatible to
use . I know it is an old printer but I need to
clarify whether this is a oneworld issue which can be solved or the
printer it self .

Kind Regards

Sally

Where are you printing from? '400, NT, novell? Fat/thin Client? We printed fine to an HPLJ 4. Are you going through citrix or no?

Don't know your environment but if this is you you
need to check it out.

SAR Number: 5568797 PCL printing problem w/SP16.1

Work Around is change the OW Printer to PS if you can.

Does it print garbage when you submit an UBE to the server and it gets
printed, or when you try to print a local PDF from the client?

Hi Sally,

The HP LaserJet 4 supports PCL5e and the standard model does not support PostScript. If you are sending it PostScript, it will treat the data as text and just print the PostScript commands.

When OneWorld prints a report PDF it calls an internal conversion program to convert the PDF to a printer language. The output from the conversion program is then just copied to the printer. It works the same on Windows where the normal print drivers are not used.

OneWorld ships as standard with 3 conversion programs - PostScript, PCL and line. I think that if you change the OneWorld configuration for this printer so it uses the PCL conversion program all should work OK. How you do this depends on you version of OneWorld - which OneWorld release are you using?

Peter.

I've seen this too. I don't think this is really a OW or Printer issue. I
seems that it's likely just two devices speaking different languages. In OW
you can generate a PDF using either PCL or the Postscript language. In NT
you can print using either the PCL or Postscript language. A postscript file
won't print very well on a PCL printer driver.

In OW check to see if the users' default printer is set to a PCL or
Postscript printer driver. If OW is generating a postscript PDF and you're
trying to print this using a PCL printer driver you'll get pages of garbage.

Additionally you can check the HP web site to see what printer languages
your printer supports and the version of that language that it can accept.

Beware of Citrix, sometimes a local printer can get remapped to a Citrix
printer. So you generate the PDF in OW with a postscript driver, remap the
printer in Citrix to a PCL driver but have a local Postrscript printer
driver. All this results in garbage coming out.

If all else fails click the print as file button when you print the PDF.
This should help with a few issues in a small number of cases. Carefull,
this bethod of printing is painfully slow.

Hi Sally,

When you setup a printer in OneWorld (GH9013) and if your ES is an AS400,
you must 'tick' the 'ASCII Encoding' check box on the Detail tab
under the heading 'AS400 Only', otherwise it will try to print EBCDIC as
default.

Hope it can be to any help.

Cheers
