Long running P03802

Dear List, Has anybody modified the Update A/R from Address Book DW to run faster? It takes approx. 1 hr. 20 min. to update our 849,000 records in the F0311.

I am not familiar with that program but you may want to check to see if it
updates all the time, regardless if the values are different or not. I know I
have changed a few manfuacturing programs because they always updated a value
even if it wasn't changed! Gotta love those boys in Denver. One of the
programs I changed went from a 10 hours run time to 30 min. Hope this helps!
(If it does, can I come to Hawaii?)

We have not modified this program here, and our program run takes about
5 minutes to run. Question - do you use parent numbers at all??? If not,
that could be why your program takes so long to run. The program logic
checks the F0150 file for a parent for a customer record. If NO record
found, basically the program assumes run date as the last change date, and
since last change date will always be after the last date the P03802 program
was run, the program will proceed to reupdate all records in the F0311, when
there really may not be a need to do so. I would suspect this is your real
problem. If so, then a mod to not update if no F0150 record found might be
something to consider - but I would think only if positive will NEVER use
the parent feature. Hope this helps.

Jeff & John, Thank you for your sensible replies. I doubt that I will attempt any code changes because our F0150 is not empty, but do visit us anytime! Debbie

Debbie,
This F0150 file is shared by A/R and A/P, at the least. So just because
you have something in there may not mean you have not set up any A/R
parent/child relationships. I would suggest checking to see if anything has
been done on the A/R side.

Hello,

This may not be any help but we reduced the time our pre-statement Update AR took to run by using data selection to choose only the accounts with statements being run for on a particular day. We do however still run a full update before any aged debt reporting etc...
