Inactivating Inventory items

We have some parts that are no longer being used. Is there any way to inactivate them so that no more activity can be accidentally booked against them? I did not see any fields in the item master that would work for this purpose.

Using a stocking type of 'O' for Obsolete is supposed to do this. I don't remember the specifics of what it stops. Try changing this in a test environments and see what it does for you.

Another useful Stocking Type is U. It allows you to sell what you have in stock but it prevents you from purchasing the items.

Be sure to remember, that when setting up U items, you disable the ability
to do a branch to branch transfer (ST/OT). Something to just think about.
