HIPAA 834 File Output

We've just received a requirement to send all of our benefit enrollments to Blue Cross in the HIPAA 834 EDI format vice their older proprietary format that we’ve been using forever. Researching this issue shows that while Oracle and Peoplesoft have this function integrated into their software, E1 does not. A call to Oracle confirmed that E1 doesn’t have it and will never have it. Thanks Oracle.

So, the question is. Has anyone out there written a UBE to output their enrollment information into the 834 format? Any info would help as I’ve never dealt with HIPAA EDI and I’m not sure where to start.

I know we have a process that creates the file for BCBS. Not sure if its in the HIPAA 834 EDI format though. I have not heard anything about needing to change that interface so it must be compliant.
