Dreamwriter - Based on File

When running a dreamwriter, the current Based on File does not provide the ability to Data Select on the desired fields.

1. What is in involved in changing the Based on File to another File.

2. It appears you can have only one Based on File specified so what is the approach required if you need to be able to Data Select on Fields from 2 differing files.

3. Can the Based on File be a logical file?

I think you have to change all the DW versions, related CL and the RPG program. Efforts depend on the nature of complexity. CL program will have override command over the based on file. Most of the standard JDE programs process the selected records of based on file.

Yes you are correct. Only one file.

Yes, logical file can be specified as based on file.

1. Changing the based on file can be moderately complex as MITU pointed out.

2. When needing two files I often times use two or more Dream writers inside the same CL. 1 CL 1 RPG 2 DW but only one has processing options. Another technique would be to have the DW over a join LF.

3. With few exceptions there is little to be gained by having a DW over a LF.
