We are running World 73.

We have approximately 60 departments set up with several hundred companies.
We restrict users using Edwards business unit security applied across all
files in Edwards to prevent users in one company from viewing or accessing
records in another. We have found that when Journal Entries are posted that
cross companies, this BU Security setup restricts users who do not have
access to all companies from viewing any of the entry.

We would like to open access to the F0911 so that all users can access all
transactions in JE or Account Ledger inquires. My question is that once you
setup BU security for one file, must you setup security for all files that
you wish to be secured? Or can security to F0911 be setup as an exception.

Any other approaches to this issue or suggestions would be more than
welcome. Thanks!

Joe,

I believe it's either/or. So, you either have to use the file name column
or don't. All or none.

The training guide I have tells how one way vs the other works but it
doesn't discuss a combination. Adding a line in there with a file
specified should just get ignored.

Good Luck,
Rich

Business unit security is applied to records in F0006. That is to say if
you have a business unit numbering system, and it ranges from 1 - 100, (just
an example here) and user has a restriction on a range from 1-10, they will
see everything from 11 through 95 no matter what program they are in. It is
typical that you would form a group profile for accountants that would need
to see all accounts and give them a wide open business unit security range.
Create the group, apply security at the group level and assign the users to
the group.
