Bills of Material

We have set up new standards based on latest bill of materials, routings,
etc and rolled up sim + frozen '07' costs into their various branch plants.

Finance want to retain this setup throughout the next financial year for
benchmark purposes. Production want to use the BOM to reflect current
working practice and change a bill (frequently) so it can be used for
materials planning and recosting.

I am aware that we can use different bill types but we have 5 production
plants, together with hundreds of products which can be produced in more
than one plant, and a storage facility using Advanced Warehousing. Before
setting up new bill types I would appreciate ideas from any other user with
a solution inside/outside JDE.

We have the same setup as it sounds like you do.
One thing we do is copy the '07' cost into another cost bucket. (like '50' or '51' etc)

Then also on the BOM (F3002) if you haven't noticed there are effective "From" and "Thru" dates.
We also use those for the changes. Same thing with the Master Routing file. (F3003)

The only "Custom" thing we have is a program that allows us to copy cost buckets. (it copies the F4105, and F30026).
This program also has processing options we use for "Mark-up" and or "Exchange Rate". We use it for our end of year cost roll between plants. (US, Mexico, and Canadian branches)

Mick,

It depends on what you actually want to retain, if it is just the costs once
you do a cost roll copy the costs to another cost method to retain for
reporting purposes.

For the bill of Material changes if you have 'Log Bill of Material Changes'
turned on in the Manufacturing Constants then all of the BOM changes are
written to the F3011 file. Also if you maintain BOM's by effectivity dates
then the structure of the BOM is kept based on an as of date in the F3002
file. In the BOM inquiry program you can inquire on a BOM based on an as of
date. Also the costed BOm program P30206 also has an as of date field.

Mick,
We had the same situation and our solution was to have a central branch
plant that was the master repository for the bill of material structures
which we affectionately called the engineering branch plant. We don't keep
costs there because we are multinational and this wouldn't make sense
anyway. This allowed each plant to make independent decisions about
make/buy etc without impacting other plants. Also allowed some local
customization of the bills within certification guidelines. We are under
FAA and have to be sure our product conforms to the tested design status so
the manufacturing plants do not get too much freedom to make changes or
substitutions. Hope this helps.
Good Luck
Hal

PS We have plants in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland and Leighton-Buzzard,
England as well as Winston-Salem

Thanks Scott, Andrew, & Hal for your assistance and quick response - I'm
hoping to get Database Audit Manager installed in the near future so all
together I hope to work out something acceptable.
