Address Book Report Download

I would like to be able to write a query/ww to extract the information on report "P01301 Reports by Address" into Excel/Word for a mail merge. This is on menu G0121.

The file the standard report works on is F0101JC but this does not contain the text memorandum fields held in F0016.

I cannot work out how to join F0101JC and F0016 as there are no obviousl common fields - any suggestions on how the standard report does this join so I can reproduce it in my query/ww.

Thanks

Steve.

F0016 has serial no. The relationship is in F00163

WW would be the way to go but your join is a bit of a tricky one. You need to also look at file F00163 to get you there. In this file, there is a field "Composite Key" (CKEY) that has the address book # the entity you have generic text on. The trick is this is a "big alpha" field so you will have to substring off the first 8 chars and put into a numeric field so you can have a field to join to F0101JC with. Now to get to the actual generic text, there is a field called Serial Number (SERK) that is your key to join F00163 to F0016.

Hope this helps!

Hi List,

There is the ability to create a "flat" file containing a whole heap of
address book information. It includes supplier and customer data. From
memory to you need to use HS 27 from address book main menu. The nice thing
is that it creates an AS/400 file that you can download to anywhere.
Generally I have created this file then used Query/400 to create a selective
file of relevant fields then downloaded the resultant file to PC using
Client Access or the ODBC functions in Excel. If you need more info then
reply and I will dig out the specific JDE details (I can't connect to the
AS/400 from home)

Please provide details for creating the flat file for downloading or AS/400
queries. Thanks.

Are you using IBM's Client Access? We need a little more info of what
software you have and maybe a little background of your experience? Some of
the methods are a little technical.

And, what OS are you at? V4r4?

Dale

Yeah we are using IBM Client Access. I have now managed to get the information I needed out of JDE using instructions/advice supplied from Sannan in a previous reply. The method is fiddly but gets results ! (But isn't that how it was designed to be !)

Thanks to the list for all the replies. Appreciated.

... By the way any ideas yet out there regarding my previous post re: how to get a csv address file INTO the Address Book ???

I created a program that uploads the data into eight different JDE files. I
first transfer from a csv file using Client Access.

This seems like a really "open ended" question. There is no "generic" Address Book file to be downloaded. What the originator of this post was doing was creating a World Writer with specific information out of the address book to be downloaded.

If you are looking to download address book info, my suggestion would be to decide what you need to download (fields), build a WW (to a file) accordingly and use any one of a variety of download tools such as Client/Access file transfer or good ol' FTP. There are others...!

Sorry Steve, I was replying to the unclued that posted this:

"
Please provide details for creating the flat file for downloading or AS/400
queries. Thanks."

I should have ignored the poorly written request.

We have a product called ODBCFace that allows you to upload / download to
any ODBC compliant datasource (including AS/400) from / to Excel.

If anyone is interested in the details, please email me.

Fw: Address Book Report Download

Option 18/G0131 creates F01901. A word of care; field names in F01901
relate to the files from which each field comes from (eg A5xxxx, A6xxxx,
ABxxxx, WPxxxx etc.).

The major advantage of using the F01901 file is that you do not have to
worry about the joins etc between the various Address Book files

Use WW or Query etc to select and output required fields from F01901 then
download using OBDC, client access etc.
