A New Production Enterprise Server

Dear List,

We are getting ready to change out our production Enterprise Server. What would be a better/prefer way to proceed - keep our old Enterprise Server name or give it a new name? What are the pros and cons? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

Tet,
if your old and new servers are compatible (hardware, OS level) you could just do a backup and restore of the JDE directory and database, naming the new machine the same as the old one. That´s easy.
However, it´s very easy as well to ADD a new server to an existing system. (In that case it would have a different name, off course.) You could then test the new machine in parallel, slowly move all datasources to it and eventually switch off the old machine when it´s not used any more. Very smooth.
Personally I would go for the second option.

Good luck, Gerd
