New deployment server thinks it's a Terminal Server

New deployment server thinks it\'s a Terminal Server

Dear List

We are in the process of testing upgrade to XE and swapping out the deployment server. I have installed B733.1 from CD and moved folders from the current deployment server(NT 4.0) to the new deployment server(Win 2000). We've created a separate oracle instance(8.1.6). I get OW to come up but I can't check out an object or run UTB.

I get an error message that "You are currently running on Windows Terminal Servers. You do not have access".

Terminal Server is disabled on this machine.

Any idea why this server thinks it's a terminal server?

Are terminal services installed on this win2k machine? Disabling the services is not good enough I think.
2 options, either remove the terminal services completely or you can add OWDEVELOPER=TRUE (Case sensitive) to the [DEBUG] section of the jde.ini file on your deployment server. But please note that Denver will not support a terminal services enabled deployment server.

Finally, an easy one. Windows 2000 server, by default, has terminal
services turned on. When OneWorld detects this, it assumes it is on a
terminal server. Go into services, and turn off 'terminal services' and
disable it..you should then be ok.

Sully1,

It doesn't think it is a terminal
server, but terminal services comes
bundled with Win2000. You have to
uninstall WTS from the machine.
This is listed in the Min Tech Reqs
on the knowledge garden as well.

Thanks for the response. Terminal server has not been installed on this W2K machine. I added the OWDEVELOPER=TRUE in the jde.ini file but that did work.

Re: New deployment server thinks it\'s a Terminal Server

Patty,

I have a W2K Server running as my formscape box, I had a similar problem when I was trying to install Zetafax to use with Formscape. I did not install termincal services on it, but by default there are registry entries present for it. I had to delete/disable those in order to get Zetafax installed. That could be your problem. If I wrote those entries down I could tell them to you, but alas I didn't - stupid me. Maybe someone else here knows what they are and could provide them to you to look at.

RE: New deployment server thinks it\'s a Terminal Server

The deployment server 'client' software is different from a regular
fat client. It will not work on a system with terminal services running.
Just turn off/disable them and you will be ok. JDE has certified Win2k
for use with JDE, and they are aware (it is documented) to turn
off/disable the services. I would also ensure that the TS are off on all
of the servers other than the machines you are going to use as terminal
servers. Having the TS on complicates the box (more stuff running, more
memory and cpu used) and opens a possible security hole if you are not
careful.

Re: New deployment server thinks it\'s a Terminal Server

Hi Patty

Check document: OTM-01-0019 in the knowledge garden.

Windows 2000 Deployment and WTS Service removal.
If you are utilizing the Windows 2000 OS for the deployment server for any release then the windows terminal services will need to be removed in order for the functionality of a package build to operate. The minimum tech requirements (MTR) information on the knowledge garden indicates this requirement as well and this document will provide the steps for removing these services. The error received on the deployment server is the following message --

You may not execute any of the OneWorld Development Tools on this Windows Terminal Server. Please do not attempt this action again.

Please be aware that disabling the services through the Services application will not resolve the issue; the services and components for the terminal service need to be entirely removed.

Here are the steps to remove the windows components related to the terminal services --

1.) Run the Add/Remove Programs application from the Control Panel on the Windows 2000 deployment server.
2.) Select the Add/Remove Windows Components.
3.) Scroll down and find two components called 'Terminal Services' and 'Terminal Services Licensing'.
4.) Unselect both of these components.
5.) Select the next button and this will remove the components.
6.) When complete the system should be rebooted for the changes to take effect.

Adrian

I followed the steps to delete those services but they won't go away. When I went into Add/Remove Windows Components and found the terminal services and listener they were already unselected(not checked). I highlighted them and click next. I looked like it was trying to install them instead of deleting them. When back and looked they were still disabled and unchecked. I rebooted...same thing. How do you make them disappear? Thanks.

Re: New deployment server thinks it\'s a Terminal Server

The problem is solved. I talked to JDE. The OWDEVELOPER=TRUE addition to the jde.ini file won't work for us because we are on an old service pack i.e Service pack 7.1. JDE told us to create a network group called OWDEVELOPER and add JDE(user I'm using) to the group. This solved the terminal services problem. Thanks you all for all of your help.
