Windows 2003 SP2 and XE Deployment Server

Hi,
We swapped out our XE SP23-F1 deployment server with new hardware and an OS upgrade. We are running Windows 2003 SP2 on the server now. Everything is running fine, execpt that there is a known registry hack for SP2 for the Deployment server. Our consultants are searching for this hack. I was wondering if anyone knew what registry hacks had to be made so that we can do builds on the deployment server if we want to.

Thanks in advance, Jay

Jay,

Try this - downrev your service pack to SP1. There is something about SP2 that the deployment server doesn't like. If you find the registry hack, I'd love to know and will test on my new deployment server.

Gregg,
Could you elaborate a little on what the problem is please. We aren't SP2 yet but I'd like to be forwarned and duck the bullet if possible.
Thanks.

Just to eloborate a bit....
Apparently, the problem with Win03 SP2 and an XE deployment server has to do with UNCs. There was a chance that the UNC wouldn't "decode" correctly. We lucked out in that we were able to do our build work on the deployment server without needing a registry hack.

However, with this said, I'd still like to know what the registry hack is, just in case something crops up later.

Thanks in advance, Jay!

Richard,

When we had SP2 on the server, we saw a lot of ODBC error messages like this:

3656/4092 Thu Jun 07 20:26:14 2007 JDBODBC.C5569
ODB0000207 - SQLExecute failed

3656/4092 Thu Jun 07 20:26:14 2007 JDBODBC.C5569
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionWrite (send()). - SQLSTATE: 01000

3656/4092 Thu Jun 07 20:26:14 2007 jdb_drvm.c938
JDB9900401 - Failed to execute db request

3656/4092 Thu Jun 07 20:26:14 2007 ODBC_P1.C1500
ODB0000095 - SQLFetch failed in Table(1st) F98741
Database Central Objects - PD7333

We downrevved to SP1 and those went away. I built a package logged in on a terminal server session and still had some problems. We tried a package build logged in on Dameware and that worked, but we still need to do a bit more testing to feel confident.

How did the testing with SP2 go?. Just wondering if we should hold off from applying SP2.
Another question I had was when we installed Windows 2003 we did not find the 5 dll's (atl71, MFC71, MFC71u, Msvcp71, Msvcr) that are listed in the MTR for the C++ compiler. We are on 8.9 so we can do with VC++ 6.0

We checked our other deployment servers (Win 2k) and they have these dll's, anything that we are missing?

Thanks.

AS400Guru,

We have been running our XE deployment server on windows 2003 SP1 for a month now, and it is going smoothly. We have no plans to install SP2 on that server.
