Multi-Tasking with SP21

We recently moved from SP17.1 to SP21
Whenever a client has an application open that is processing in some way (ie
a Find) the user can not open any other programs and recieves a pop-up
window saying that

"A new application can not be started while other applications are
processing."

Is this a permanant change or does it go away once we move to another SP or
JDE version? It kind of sucks. So much for a windows app supporting
multi-tasking.

Quite annoying, isnt' t it?

Unfortunately, it is permanent and is here to stay - there's a lot of small changes all around the software related to this "feature", including the locking of the debuglog.log file.

I have to wonder about its 'permanence'... there are a lot of clients complaining. Perhaps they aren't complaining to the right folks - or are just complaining amongst themselves.

The complaints, probably, aught to be piped up a few notches?

We all hear your pain!

Daniel,

That is true enough, but they would have to roll back a lot of changes to restore it, if it's possible at all.

The main driver, I believe, was a change in the grid OCX used throughout the software and the new one was not thread safe (are they ever?).

But this deficiency is really painful and, in essense, it takes away most of the previously available multitasking capabilities of the software.

It could be possible to push PSFT to roll this back, if there are many hundreds of customers behind this request...
