Baseline ESU JD18810

I want to apply the latest planner and JD 18810 to the Pristine environment and have some questions.

1. How long does JD18810 take to apply? Can I do it during the day? While JDE is up?

2. If for some reason I need to un-install the basline what would be the best way. Use the JDE tool or restore from backups?

3. Are there any gotcha on the planner ESU and can it be installed when the system is up?

Thanks
Patty

Sully :

1. It takes 30' to apply it (don't forget to read pre and post installation
instructions).
It can be applied while users are working.

2. In case of problem, the best way to go back is to restore \b7333\planner
folder and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JDEdwards entries. Planner ESUs also modify
regular objects
on the installation pathcodes, thus be sure to SAVE this objects (using OMW)
before applying
ESU Planner on a specifical pathcode. In case of problem, RESTORE them from
OMW.

3. Major gotchas with Planner ESUs arise from missing pre and post
installation tasks.

Of course, although the planner ESU doesn't take too long to apply - the Baseline ESU takes as long to apply as a Major ASU (such as Update 7).

If you plan on implementing the Baseline ESU to ONLY pristine (for movement into DV, PY and PD later) - you might want to forgo the "Backup" option since this takes many, many hours to complete - a good tape backup of your pathcodes prior to implementing is strongly recommended instead.

You can start the installation of any ESU or ASU while other users are on the system - if you correctly only apply the update to Pristine, you will not even impact developers at all. Of course, while the ESU/ASU is installing, the Deployment server is busy and it would not be possible to build packages during the process.

If you have to uninstall the baseline - I would restore Pristine Central Objects together with the JD7333 directory on the deployment server. These are the only 2 places that would be affected. I would certainly do this through backups rather than the JDE tool.

The ESU is relatively new - if you are running XU7, all baselines are rolled into the latest update so you automatically receive credit for the baseline. I would prefer myself to install XU7 rather than the baseline unless you have major development.

Thanks to all for your responses.

Jon you said the only two things to restore were the database and the deployment server. What about the pathcode on the Unix enterprise server?
