We take weeks or months to set up new Finished Goods, due to poor communication. This has caused us to miss several delivery deadlines.

Can JDE help us? For example: When the Item Master for a Finished Good is created, can JDE notify the next person to enter the BOM? When the BOM is entered, notify the next person to enter the routing? When the Routing is entered, notify the next person to rollup costs, etc.?

If JDE doesn't support something like this, can it be supported through ODA and our Microsoft Exchange system?

Thanks

Hey Rookie,

here's how we handled this:

We use the Item Flash Status (IFLA) to communicate the status of an item definition / what stage it is at. So a new item starts out with status NI. If its a manufactured item its next status code will be BR (Bill Required), then RR (Routing Required) then CR (Cost Review/Rollup) and finally AA (Finished Item). There are other statuses but you get the picture. Only AA items can be purchased or planned.

We have added IFLA to many of the Find/Browse forms so that different people/roles can filter based on Item Status and/or identify the queue of items working for their attention in the definition process. You really don't need e-mail for something like this.

Remember though, automating a bad process still leaves you with a bad process. The user's involved need to step up to the plate and come up with a better process that doesn't take months.

Regards,

Hi,
JDEdwards has a module called workflow - you can get documentation on this from the knowledge garden. This can send mail mesages and much more.

We use it mainly in purchasing. When a person raises a requisition it sends an E-Mail to the approver, the approver accepts or rejects it and then a mail goes back to the originator to let them know.

It works very well, but it sounds like all you want to do is send a mail when you are done with a certain item - in which case you can use the "Send Message" function in the event rules to send out a mail.

Depends how complex you want the "Rules" to be!

Let me know if you need more information.
