Oracle 8i to 9i Upgrade w/XE

We currently run Oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris. We are looking at upgrading to Oracle 9i in the near future. In respect to JDE, is there any guide lines we should follow aside from the usual backups? Has anyone done this and what/if any issues did you encounter?
