Year End Control File Merges

The Year End W2 download is ready. I printed off the spreadsheet with the control file changes. It's 4 pages long. we're supposed to key 4 pages worth of Vocab Overrides, Dreamwriter, Menu, Repository, UDC, Message changes into 3 different environments, without errors. Has anybody created a program to automate this yet? I would think the installation program that calls the merges could be copied/modified to use a different input library, but at a quick glance it's hard to say where that would be.

I wrote programs to handle cum updates for the last system I worked on
(bespoke package for a Petroleum company) and each update was virtually
automatic. Once the operator loaded the taper and kicked off the
installation option from a menu, the process restored the commands for the
update from tape then executed them. The commands determined the current
level the system was at, restored the appropriate libraries, updated files
where necessary if the format changed of field contents needed revising,
updated message files (multi-lingual too like JDE).
I'm sure JDE could do something like this to cover most of the manual work
we are currently required to do.

I just realized we are in the same situation. Couldn't you just do a cpyf
command with *add?

No, most of the records in each type of control file already exist, they are just changing a few fields here and there. I wrote programs at a previous employer to merge the files and don't have the time here to write them again. I tried using the Installation/Upgrade Individual Merges process, but it didn't update all of the records in each group. I have a call into JDE to see if they will help.

I agree it is a pain but I find it much easier to do this manual work than get these updates in JDE PTF flavor on tape which requires all users to be out of the system! And just so you can feel sorry for me, I have to do these manual updates for 1099's and W2's to 12 environments and the T4 stuff to 4 environments. Gotta love this time of the year. Ho Ho Ho.

They don't need to send a PTF tape to provide a program that does this merge. The programs could be included in the download. There is an existing SAR 5079424, that is in Programming stage to update the PCCPY update procedure for these kinds of updates. Hopefully they will think to add this same functionality to the Year End Updates.
