world writer

Hello List,

Concerning World Writer, I know there is a way to total on a newly created
field but I cannot get it to work. It will not display the new field so I
can select to sum on it. Is this a bug or is there a step I am missing?

Did you do an F16 on the "output field specifications" screen. I believe
you give the new field a sequence number?

Lori,

Have you usaed the F16 key to redisplay all fields?
This will show all fields for the table selected. You
cannot use F14 as you did not select the field in the
original data seletion.

I always indicate my total levels and hand enter the
new field. I has always saved the information.

Lori,
When I do this, I have to move to the Field Name column and type in the
user defined field. Fo instance, say I created a field called H$EXTPRC
which does a calculation. I would go to the Data Sort and Totaling
selection select the item I want to subtotal, put a 1 in the column to go
to the Total Level Summary Functions screen, go to an empty line and tab to
the Field Name column and type in H$EXTPRC. WW now picks up the info from
my calculated field and will subtotal for it. Hope that is not too
confusing.

Well... there seems to be a variety of "mystery's" in this one. Not sure if it is a bug (not likely) but since you don't have your current World level noted somewhere in your post, who knows. This functionality works fine in 7.3 as long as I've used it. My guess is that on your new calculated field (which you gave us no details on) that possibly you have the "PW" (print when) value on it set to "N"? That is the only reason I can come up with why a field won't print, if you are indeed printing in Detail mode (not summary).

A little more info might get you a bit more advice, though.
