Why PRTS?

Hi

DO you know why some printer files has member's type "PRTS" (why not PRTF)?

Regards

You will have to tell us what command you are using and what specific
thing on the command results are you seeing this "PRTS" thing. As far
as I know, PRTS is not a valid thing. If you do the DSPFD IBM command,
then F4 to prompt that command, go to File Attributes parameter and F1
from there, you will see *PRTF as a valid value, but not *PRTS. You do
say "member's type", so not sure if you are looking at something in PDM
in a source member. Even there, if you F1 the type, PRTS is not listed.
But you could key a PRTS there for member type and IBM will let you do
that. Sounds like a misspelling if that is what you are talking about.

Re: RE: Why PRTS?

It's a value in SVR - puzzled me for a bit until I thought to look there...

PRTF Printer Files
PRTS Printer Files(no cover/help)

I believe this is why:

The PRTS is so you can define more than one external printer file in a
program. The one with the PRTF has the cover page JDE external pieces
and the PRTS does not. If you create the files both with the PRTF at
the Function Code and then try to compile the RPG program.....the
compile will fail because of the same External file names for the cover
page.

Please anyone correct me if this is not

Re: RE: Why PRTS?

Jim,

The way it was explained to me, the PRTS files are intended for "special" forms (hence the "S"), such as checks, preprinted invoice forms, 1099s, etc., not necessarily as an additional print file in the program. That is why they do not include the optional cover, help text, or distribution pages.
