Username changing

We have a requirement to change a large number of our application usernames. We will need to be able to trace back the new usernames to the original usernames. We use the auditing functionality. So I'm wondering if there is a recommended procedure for doing so?.

EnterpriseOne 8.0, SP22, W2K SP4, Oracle 9i.
