PO Approval w/ Next Status 999

My client has several PO “stuck” in the PO Approval queue screen. The PO’s cannot be deleted or removed. They are sitting at status 999. They just always appear in the queue. Is there anything that we can do to get rid of them? Has anyone encountered this?
