Oracle Database - 10gR2 or 11gR1 ?

All,

We are planning to upgrade our Tools Release and Oracle database in the near future. (Currently we are on 8.11 SP1, TR 8.97 and Oracle 9.2.0.8 on AIX 5.3)

Apparently latest and greatest Oracle Server 11gR2 on AIX is NOT yet supported for E1 even for the latest available Tools release 8.98.3. As per Oracle it will not be supported on AIX until Tools Release 8.98.4 which is not out there yet (estimated GA date Dec 2010 for 8.98.4.0). For variety of reasons we would prefer not to wait till stable version of 8.98.4.x and proceed with 8.98.3 instead.

So currently we have two options for database upgrade -10.2.0.5 or 11.1 (11gR1)

Our DBA is a little concerned about 11gR1 being less stable then 11gR2 or 10gR2

I am wondering if anyone has anything to say about running E1 with Oracle Database 11gR1 vs 10gR2 (maybe even on AIX platform). Any issues, concerns, suggestions ?

Thanks a lot !

Just about any version of Oracle is rock solid for the kind of demands that JDE places on it. I'd hate to go with a DB release that no longer has premier support.
-------------------------------------
In July 2005, Oracle Database 10.2.0.1 - also known as Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10gR2) - was released.

Status: Supported
Latest patch-set: 10.2.0.5 (the terminal patch set for this release)

Premier Support Ends: 31-Jul-2010 (First Year Extended Support fees waived, so it will be fully supported until 31-Jul-2011)
Extended Support Ends: 31-Jul-2013

We have a brand new E900 installation on 11gR2, been running in DV & PY for almost 2 months. Found a very minor issue with "automatic memory management", where it was using too much CPU. We turned this option off for now. Otherwise, no issues at all.
