Non Vertex Tax Integration

Has anyone successfully implemented a 3rd party tax solution into JDE? We are reviewing a few solutions that would all require a custom integration. It seems a little scary given the complexities of both Sales Tax and JDE.
Curious to hear any tales, good bad or otherwise.

I should add, this would be a BSSV implemention.
