JDE API C/C++

I just been introduced to JDE for the first time. I'm currently a C/C++ programmer, and the currently JDE developers told me to take a look at a book called "ONE WORLD Interoperability" I noticed there is a C api with JDE. I believe I can figure this out, but I just don't know what the benefits are of using the C API with JDE OneWorld
