Hi List,

We are having a setup in which there are a number of items defined for their respective branch plants. Is there any way by which we cn restrict the search of this items so that the person working in one B/P cannot view the items in other B/P during item search thru visual assist.
Regards

Sachin,

I believe the only to accomplish this would be by customizing the several Item Search forms. Basically you would need to add the F4102 table to the view(s) used by those forms and then filter based on the Branch/Plant field (you can get the default B/P for each user).

If you set up security against the F41021 and F4102 file where a person
could only see there respective branch/plant and not be able to view
others... I think this will work. thanks, Bobby

FYI the Visual Assist forms for Item Number (such as P40ITM1 - A) only include the F4101 table so setting security as described would not prevent "... the person working in one B/P cannot view the items in other B/P during item search thru visual assist.".

Hi!
If there are no items that cross branches then use a category code to indicate the branch and then put security over the top of this field.
If there is some overlap then you will have to go back to BU security.
Hope this helps!

Do you have non-stock items in your set-up? If users must search for non-stock items, items in other branch plants, or items that cross multiple branch plants in addition to the items within their branch plant, there is no way to secure the visual assist, since users must be capable of searching within and outside of their branch plant.

The solution is more a training issue. The capability you seek exists in the Item Search (P41200) and, especially, the Item Search Returning Quantity (P40ITM2). The Item Search Returning Quantity exists as a Form exit on many forms, including the work order parts list and BOM forms, and the PO and SO Detail forms. This functionality is greatly under-used because users' first impulse is to use the visual assist on the Item Number to search for parts.
