Generic Text (F14 key) notes for Item Master records

Do you add generic text notes to your F4101 Item master for later retrieval and reporting?
Do you know of something simpler than steps described next?

Add generic text notes to Item Master records with F14 function key in P4101 (P0016 Text Message program).

Notes for F4101 will be stored in Tables F00163 and F0016
Join criteria:
Use F4101 DIGITS(IMITM) join F00163 on DIGITS=C5CKEY.
Use F00163 field C5SERK join F0016 on C5SERK= CYSERK to retrieve the Text note.
I bet you have a better solution than I described.

Yes, we do. It appears your looking to use SQL whereas we use a high-level lanugage (RPG or COBOL). Regardless, its the same basic approach...just remember to keep CYLIN in sequence.

I'm surprised that this dual-file methodology has survived all these years without a redesign/rewrite.
