Fixed Assets

Has anyone calculated the Remaining Life on an Asset based on the depreciation start date. We are trying to reimplement Fixed Assets since the company takeover and would like to use the Fixed Assets system with the same Asset ID's but would like to replace Life in months with the remaining life.

thanks

Your issue is more than just changing life months. If
you are going to change the life months, you also need
to change the depreciation start date (to the takeover
date) and potentially change the asset costs and
depreciation accumulated and expense amounts. You may
also need to change the depreciation method.

I have not used the dates to calculate the remaing
life, and dont believe this is possible due tot he
differing depreciation methods and the expense
incurred. I was able to create a report to generate
an approximate remaining life based on the following
calculation; (Asset Cost - Accum Depr)/Curr Month
Depr Exp. While not exact, it gave management the
ability to evaluate the depreciation expenses for
future budgeting and tax purposes.

You could create the report, export to CSV, modify to
your requirements then upload and update.

The Remaining Life is also printed as an option on the Depreciation =
Schedule
reports (Option 14 under G1213). I'm assuming JDE calculates the =
Remaining
Periods for this report using the Depreciation Start Date and the =
useful
life. Keep in mind that, depending on your depreciation method, =
half-years
could cause you a calculation problem that may need to be accounted =
