disk space

We are experiencing a jump in disk space usage since going to XE. I cannot
seem to narrow it down where it is happening. This week it appears to have
jumped 2% since last week. I have ran a query to compare the sizes of
libraries since this query was ran last time, but the only thing that sticks
out so far is the OWJRNL library. If anyone can shed some light on this or
where I can possibly look, we would appreciate it. I have cleaned up as
best I can and we are still sitting at 88%. We are considering taking our
Central Objects back off the AS400 and putting them back on our deployment
server just for space!

Check /jdeb7332 in IFS, we just found about 170,000 jde and jdedebug log
entries there. Also the F4111 is another very active file for us 18-20k
records/day. This is just general stuff, we're not on Xe yet.

It is quite possible that the OWJRNL library is causing your jump in disk space. Do you automatically delete the old journal receivers from that library? If you don't, you should. OneWorld has no need to save any of the journal receivers once they are detached, and each one takes up at least 6 MB of DASD (if you left it at the default setting).

Libbi,
When was the last time you did an IPL on your AS/400? Also, which version of Client Access Express are you on? I used to see a dramatic gain in disk space when we were on V4R5 after an IPL, due to a memory leak. This seemed to go away after an upgrade to V5R1.

Also look at your deleted records in each JDE data file. Do a DSPFD and check Reuse deleted records . . . . . . . . . . . : REUSEDLT *NO, if this is true you should change this to *YES and run a RCLPFM (Relcaim PF Member). Note: the files can not be in use during this command

Help that helps

How can I determine this is being deleted? Right now I see 2 receiver out
there. If they aren't being deleted, how can I change it so that they are
deleted?

Re: RE: disk space

Do a WRKJRNRCV OWJRNL/<receiver name>. You can see the max size of the journal receiver.

To look at the journal, do a WRKJRNA OWJRNL/OW_JRNL. The parameter for Manage Receivers should be *SYSTEM, and Delete Receivers should be *YES if you want the receivers to automatically delete when OneWorld is through with them. Do a CHGJRN to change these parameters if you need to.

I'm not sure how much development you are doing, but Xe added quite a bit of logging with the addition of OMW.

You can reduce logging detail in GH9081, P98230.

We are not doing development at all on XE, but I did check the reduce
logging detail. Thanx.

We found a large amount of space in the IFS temp directory. It seems that UBE's that abort before completing are left in temp with no place to go. It was 47gb for us.

I am not sure where to check this IFS temp directory. Please advise. I am
at 89% again!!!!

WOW!!!! You were so correct! We deleted all of the jdedebug logs in our
jdeb7333 directory and got back 30 gig!! Now does anyone know of a way to
keep this cleaned up other than just going in and doing the rmvlnk command?
I do appreciate it!!!

Yes - go into your JDE.INI file and turn off DEBUG! You will probably notice
a nice increase in speed as well.

The only other method I'm aware of is using Operations Navigator with
Management Central installed. Then you can drill down into IFS and do a
select and delete. The great thing about this option is you see a modified
date that can help in deciding what to delete.

My jdeini file on the AS400 says output=none, but I am still getting
jdedebug files in the folder. What am I missing?

Re: RE: disk space

To turn debug off change the following ini settings:

Target = Optimize
Output = NONE
Server Log = 0
UBE Debug Level = 0
UBE Save Log File = 0

Hope this helps.

Re: RE: disk space

Should this be under the UBE section for the INI file. I notice some of you are on Oracle is there a difference in the Oracle INI file compared to the 400 because I don't have all the options you mentioned and I do have logging turned off and I still get those 1K log files for every job that runs.

I use the RMVLNK command to get rid of then but I'd rather them not even be created.

RE: RE: disk space

Thank you, but I found out why the jdedebug logs were running. It was on a
particular job on the scheduler that had the debug box checked. It ran at
3:30 a.m. and put out about a 7 gig log every night!!! Please watch this
check box on the scheduler!
Thanks to everyone for all of their help.
