Automatic receipting of orders

We have been asked to automate the process of receiving orders (I know it is not recommended but they are determined to do it). What is required is that once an order is printed and is for less than £1000 the order is received automatically. Has anyone done this?
I know the order status needs updating, a purchase order receiver record needs creating and the commitment has to be relieved.
The suggestion is to create a batch job that runs each day and picks up the appropriate orders. I know how to update the purchase order and create the receiver record, but which is the best way of relieving the commitment? And is there any thing else I have missed?
