Windows 2000 Server Advanced supports 8GB of memory.
Microsoft is not going to give you 8GB support if it is not going to be used. The 2GB limit is a terminal services limit (and this can be switched with the /3GB boot.ini setting). It is not a Windows limit for Windows 2000 Advanced server. There are numerous other processes that will use that additional 4GB of memory (2GB in your case) if it is available. It just so happens that most Windows processes do not need that additional memory.
