Sales Order Header - Print Message auto-fill

Currently the print message from the sold-to automatically populates from the customer master. Is this an hard coded process or is there somewhere to turn it on/off? We would like to pull in the print message assigned to the ship-to if the sold-to PM is blank. Wondering if this is possible!
