JD12860 Issues

All,

Maybe we can dump some of our issues (and solutions) into this one thread.

Two issues previously came up:
- "JD12860 & '400" was regarding the Special Instructions requiring SP17.1 for DB2 UDB.
- "ASU Install Updating wrong Datasource" which includes an issue that can occur for JD12860.

I am currently wrestling with two issues in my JD12860 apply:
1. The big one - Memory Violation on the Spec Merge.
2. The Menu Merge completes with errors "Empty F9752".

Does anyone have any insight to either of these issues? I have a call open with JDE and have done a fresh uninstall/install of the ESU to make sure I'm not doing something to conflict with the proper procedures (ie. using VNC, reboot machine).

Thanx much and Happy Holidays,

Doug

Doug,

What kind of box is your deployment server? Memory wise and all.

We have a NT 4 SP 6 w/ 1g of memory and we didn't get the memory violation. We worked with a gentleman by the name of Dwight Paul III in object management and we got through that ESU with no problems. We are currently on SP14 base w/ Xe.

Good luck.

Jeremey,

We have NT4 SP6 w/ around 786MB memory. This is the first memvio we've gotten since the Xe install. We are applying the update to SP17.

I worked with Dwight during our Xe install. Good guy.

Doug,

This may or may not help you. I too was receiving memory errors during my spec merge for JD12475 (the predecessor to JD12860) and the "features" screen for package builds. It turned out to be VNC viewer. Now, this did not happen when I was on my NT4.0 SP6 deployment server, but after VNC started messing up my Win2k deployment server I started looking into this and JDE says they no longer support remote software updates and package builds. I noticed that you are on NT4.0, but the problem with VNC may also have to do with current service packs and ESU designs. Try it from the console and see if it works (I would also stop the VNC service before you do this).

Good luck!

Hi
Was your problem during table conversion?
We put this on last week as part of our upgrade to Xe from B7332 and had
the same issues with memory usage creeping up. Our deployment server only
had 256mb Ram so bombed halfway thru the process. We ended up raised the
page file to 1 gb doing it for each environment.so it didnt hamper our
upgrade. And we shutdown as many services as possible

Hope this helps
Cheers
Kieran

Thanx to Sebastian and GSS, the Memory Violation turned out to be because we did not have a Deployement Data Source defined for the PLANNER Path Code Master in JDEPLAN (GH9053). For PLANNER, it should be OneWorld Local.

Still don't know if the "empty F9752" is an issue or not, but at least I seem to be able to continue.

Happy Holidays,

After applying JD12860 my ESU's hang up. I now have to uncheck the
'unattended workbench' option, do the back up. Then it hangs after the back
up and I have to restart it with both unattended workbench and backup
unchecked and walk it through.... anyone else having this?

Thanks!!

I had the same problem but only on the big ESU. Please let me know if you have a permanent solution.

Doug,

We had the same issue "The Menu Merge completes with errors "Empty F9752"". It was caused by not doing the special instructions prior to installing the ESU. We had to uninstall the ESU and then do the special instructions, then reapply the ESU.

Hope this helps.

According to one of the Object Management gentleman we spoke with at JDE.....actually he is the brightest one we have ever spoke with.....Large ESU's will not perform the backup properly. So this could be giving you problems. How big are the ESUs you are attempting?

We were attempting an ESU of over 300 objects. Toke the backup off, and it ran fine.

Happy New Year all!

Jeremey,

You are right it is only affect the large ESU. The one I had problem with is the JD13419 and the downloaded file are about 30 MB.

BTW, would you mind to share the JDE person name with us? I had work with the support line more than a week now and he still don't know the problem.

AW: JD12860 Issues

o.k.
I also have had this issue. Try this one:

In the jdeb7.mdb (Planner Pathcode) in table F9760 clear all entries.
After this repeat all steps for the ESU (special instructions).
Exit OneWorld and delete the global tables in the planner pathcode,
start OW again and run the install.

Hope that this fix your issue

Bernd

in denver at 6pm MST) Real quick on responding to email and voice mail as
well.

Jeremy, I do the backup with the unattended workbench unchecked. Then
after it finishes that part i cancel it and restart it with both unchecked.
That works just fine...

I agree. Dwight's a good guy. He spent some time helping us with our Xe install.

Just be careful with that, we tried to "back out" and ESU, even that we had done the "backup" it came back and said no backup found. So Dwight had us go and manually remove the pieces that were out there for it. Then attempt the ESU again.
