We are starting a special program with a customer where they place an order
for a "phantom" item number; which we refer to as the parent item and we
assign a UPC code. We have the flexibility to ship any associated child
item or combination of child items under that parent to equal the total
quantity ordered for that parent item. All orders, packing lists, invoices
and communications are to reflect the parent item number/UPC. However, the
child item retains its own UPC code; which will be scanned at Point Of Sale.
The parent item and its associated child items are defined in advance with
the customer and we have access to their system which has the capability to
track by the parent UPC or child UPC code. Currently, we are utilizing the
reclass item functionality to "transfer" the inventory from the child to the
parent. However, this is a manual process and we lose visibility of the
child item to monitor and compare POS data as we only have the quantity
reclassed not shipped. We are looking for another solution to problem as we
need to automate this process and retain shipping data at the child level.
Has anyone else encountered this scenario? Any suggestions or ideas would
be greatly appreciated.
