I am on OW 733 cum 2, AS/400 Server. We have t;he normal 3 environments setup, DEV, CRP, and PROD. How do you test a vertex update/upgrade without affecting all environments? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you using the isam version you can actually just copy the vertex
directory to say vertexupgrade. Then you just need to go point an
environment to this new directory in the P7308 application.

You don't.......following are the steps we use and they work fine for us.
Not sure if they will help you though, we are WinNT.

Have someone test a Payroll run in either your DV or PY environment.

You have to load Vertex locally on the workstation you are testing from. I
found the instructions on KG ohr-01-0022

I'm from a Unix environment, but I expect it's similar...

Testing a Vertex upgrade is like testing a OneWorld SP upgrade - it affects all environemnts. The difference being that you CAN turn Vertex on or off by environment via the F7306 table.

What I have done is sete up a seperate instance of OW on a different port. I assume you can you do this on AS/400? How do you test an SP upgrade?

We set up a different vertex instance/data source for each environment then
modified the P7308 Quantum Database Connection accordingly.

Let me know if you need more detail.

You can just point the database path setup in P7308 to another location for
each environment. The F7308 is in Business Data, not System Tables so this
is entirely possible and does work. I've done this on a NT/2K ES using the
Vertex ISAM database and also on a NT/2K ES using Vertex in an Oracle
database.

ie in PROD use \\servername\Vertex\Prod\db
in CRP use \\servername\Vertex\CRP\db

The only thing you need to be carefull of is when you do a Business data
refresh from PROD to CRP you need to reset the datasource path.

Actually you can use this method to point vertex to a locally running copy
but you'll have to remap a few UBE's and BSFN's. This way you can play with
a Workstation instead of a Server. Check the Knowledge Garden for a list of
UBE's and BSFN's to remap for Sales & Use Tax and Payroll Tax.

Do you happen to be testing Quantum for Payroll Tax 2.4.X? Just an FYI -
I've tested this ESU for it on B733.2 and it breaks more than it fixes!!!

So if it breaks more than it fixes, how do we upgrade to the 2.4.x version
of vertex and keep our payroll running?

Lori,

the word from JDE is that you can still upgrade to Vertex 2.4.X. However
you'll have the following issues:

5961492š Payroll EE DBA Inst Override Flag š
5958365š Payroll Program files\vertex failing š

These are issues on B7332 AND Xe. If you don't override any DBA's then
you're fine. As for the second issue you can install Vertex to a a new
directory or use a 'DOS' path. For us these issues mean we pretty much can't
run a payroll if we apply this ESU.

We've escalated this with our Client Manager. Denver's supposed to be
dilegently working on this but who knows when a fix will come.

Thanks Colin for the information. Does not sound very good. Please let me
know when you hear something from Denver.

Lori,

these SAR's are now built into ESU's. For B733.2 it's the JD15280. I'll be
installing these on Tuesday in DEV and runnning Parallel for a week.
