Locking a location to prevent transactions

Is it possible to lock a location to prevent any transactions being done in it?

The problem I have is that when we do physical inventory, people like to keep making transactions into and out of locations that have already been counted. The best we can do now is send a company-wide e-mail telling people not to make any transactions in these specific locations. Shockingly enough, people ignore the e-mail and continue making transactions in these locations.

Any suggestions?

We never found a way to "freeze" locations for inventory so we ended up shutting off access to all but a few people.

If your business does *not* use lot tracking, you might consider assigning bogus lot numbers to your locations - this causes a number of transactions to fail if they don't contain lot information ;-)

Unfortunately, we do use lot tracking. And only a select few users have access to the system on the day of inventory. The problem we have is that we have outside locations we count a day or two before the actual day of inventory. We'd like to shut off access to those locations until the entire inventory is complete. As is, we have people "steal" parts from those locations to fix their inventory counts.

I don't know if that helps any. Would it be possible to use a separate branch plant, just for inventory? Like transfer all of the outside locations inventory to a temporary branch plant? Is it then possible to shut off access to the temporary branch plant? Then, once inventory is completed, we'd transfer all of the temporary branch plant inventory back to the original locations?

Just throwing out ideas here.

Thanks for the help.

You might be able to lock out certain "devices" utilizing a different interactive subsystem. This requires a bit of OS configuration work but many companies find this method useful for blocking workstations in geographically separate locations.
