A Couple Of General JDE Questions

1) According to Oracle the only kind of Media Object that can be attached to a UBE document through standard Processing Option functionality is a text attachment. Has anyone found a way to include non-text attachments, such as image or document Media Objects?

2) Also according to Oracle, there is no Preventive Maintenance functionality that allows the printing of a Work Order for a parent asset to also kick off Work Orders for the child assets, making them all active at the same time. Does anyone know a way to trick the system into doing this?

The current plan is to do custom development for these tasks, but if that can be avoided it would save a lot of time.

Regarding #1: While its seldom that something is impossible, many things are "very difficult to accomplish". Including non-text Media Objects in the straight UBE output falls under the latter.

Having said that, it may be possible to do at least some of what you're trying to accomplish using BI Publisher or equivalent 3rd party products (images for example would not be that difficult utilizing BIP).

Regardless though you are looking at custom development - and you may not be able to accomplish all that you desire.

We did consider BI Publisher but since each UBE output would be referencing a different attachment we would be looking at probably 100s of UBE versions and templates based on the specific document being printed. That's because there is no standard data layout or repository with which to populate a BI template.

Jeff,

You may want to reach out to Scott Hollowell of Asset Management Solutions. He has many posts on JDEList and I have worked with him during our Maintenance module implementation. He's very knowledgeable with PM's, plus his company has a solution for printing attachments (such as with a PM work order or purchase order).

I did receive a message from him and I have followed up with him. Thanks for giving him a good recommendation.

You've received lots of good responses already for question #1, but do not see any for question #2.
Take a look at PM Schedules, more specifically into linking service types.. through "Associations" and or "Routes"... see if either one of those will work for you. Will provide link to oracle document that reviews the P1207 (PM Schedules) application.

We did consider using Routes but Oracle explained that the process only works when the Service Types are actually the same, which would not be the case in this situation. Do Associations have the same limitation? If not, I will investigate that option.

Thanks Don and Jeff. As Don said, we have built out a Printing solution for Media Objects for JD Edwards.

For WO's we don't route, or associate to one another we use batch printing, using the WO UBE, we setup versions for specific areas (assets), and with data selections to narrow it down to a couple criteria it prints everything we need in a single run.
