E1 & SQLServer Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)

Has anyone implemented TDE with their JDE E1?

If so, how well has it worked out?

I have worked with a couple of JDE 9.0 and 9.1 instances where TDE is used.

Without trying to be funny, I will say that it has been Transparent. There has been absolutely nothing special required from a JDE standpoint either in the CNC area or otherwise.

From a DBA perspective TDE does impact the effectiveness of database compression. You won't get as good a compression ratio. This extends to backups of the database which will also be encrypted.

Also keep in mind that TDE only deals with the "data at rest" part of the security equation. You'll need to implement SSL SQL Client connectivity to get the data in motion over the network encrypted.

Thanks JE,

Your comments were very helpful. It sounds like it could be manageable technology in the right hands. I am working on a project to implement JDE HR. We are looking at using TDE for the HR data only.
