Serialized Objects and JITI

What do we mean by serialized objects in JDE? As it is seen that when I try to run any application on local machine there are no. of progress bar windows appearing and disappearing indicating that it is a JITI. Please explain me what is JITI, why it is done and the connection between JITI and Serialized objects?
