I have been trying with little success to find anyone who has actually done performance tests on like hardware for E1 running on SQL Server or Oracle RAC. You ask Oracle they give you two different customer driven tests. Neither are the same load or equipment. You ask Microsoft, same answer. Has anyone out there done a recent review of the two database tiers and repeatable tests?
Our real dilemma? We are currently on SQL Server 2008R2, running E1 9.1 using advanced warehousing with license plating, advanced pricing, sales order management, G/L, manufacturing shop floor. This is integrated to several systems depending on the market and the configuration per subsidiary. We know that our current SQL Server running on the hardware we have will only scale to a certain point but it seems we can easily scale out the processing power to multiple E1 servers but SQL is a harder limit unless we spend the huge bucks for much larger equipment.
I know that RAC could be used but to what cost and how much of a performance boost do you get?
