Crystal Reports and JDE ODBC

We have used Crystal (non enterprise) for quite awhile with Xe using the ODA ODBC driver. We recently upgraded to JDE 8.12 with tools 8.98.1. We can still use the ODA driver but have some concern that as we update the tool set we may loose conectivity. Is anybody still using the ODA driver with a tool set greater than 8.98.1? What is the best way to continue to use Crystal?

"What is the best way to continue to use Crystal?"

A: Don't use ODA. Go after the database directly. You don't realize how much performance you lose using ODA (orders of magnitude). In addition ODA has the JDE limit of only 5 (?) tables in a join/query (only 3 if a outer join is used). Many of our reports have 6 - 10 tables in them. ODA can't handle that.

What version of Crystal are you using?

Do yourself a favor and look at Preferred Strategies solutions for JDE customers. You can leverage all your existing reports and provide users with web based reporting at the same time plus ...

Thanks Larry

We do realize the issues with performance using the ODA. Crystal isn't real bad but some of our people also use the ODA for Excel queries and that is a real hog!

Again - check out Preferred Strategies / Business Objects. Their product includes an Office/Excel integration piece (LiveOffice).

If you have no budget but have the time you can do what we did (search my posts on Crystal stuff).
