Hi all,

I'm trying to install E812 standalone on my new windows 7 64bit notebook. Installation was succesfull but I'm not able to log on.
Does anyone have experience with this type of install? Our CNC says it is currently not supported but are there any workarounds?
This is what's in de JDE.log

Listen to your CNC.

Windows 7 is not a supported platform for development or the demo.....

The problem is already solved.

It was just a connection problem with the database (Our CNC fixed it by adding a System DSN in odbc32ad32.exe). Everything is now up and running. Don't get why Oracle says that they don't support Windows 7 yet.

Thankfully, you took Greg's advice (and listened with your CNC

)

The internal architecture within each OS is different enough, that the 70,000+ Files and Folders of the Installation, have to be validated to work with each architecture.... Apparently, that assumption that "it should work with ..." is hard to byte. They'd rather just say "Not Supported" and release themselves of any "ASS U ME" Adventures. "Not Supported" is synonymous with "Not Our Fault".

That said... When did Windows 7, come out, what year is it - and why the heck is everyone still running XP (didn't everyone else HATE XP when it first came out)?

XP was actually pretty darn good - I still run it (when I have to run windows !). I have a couple of Windows 7 installs, and they seem to be pretty stable (though still haven't installed JDE on there yet).

Vista came out on Jan 30, 2007 - and was HORRIBLE ! What is VERY interesting is that Windows XP came out on October 25, 2001 - so it was around for 5.5 years before Vista, and Windows 7 came out less than 2 years later !

I think that pretty much answers why people are concerned about Windows 7 - the fallout over Vista was pretty dramatic. I also think that because of the economy, and because of technologies like VMWare VDI (and now, Oracle VDI - sounds like a disease, eh !), companies are still wary about spending lots of moola on desktop OS's right now.
