Security Business Unit

I would like to know what other people have done about the security =
business unit if they don't have a business unit 1 in their organization =
structure. The system is hard coded to default a BU 1 in the business =
unit field on A/B revisions P01012. Because we don't have a BU1 we get =
an error message. Has anyone else dealt with this and if so what was =
your plan of action?

Depends what you want to do with this field. It has three main uses:

1. A place to store the customer's default branch/plant so it can default
into Sales Order Entry. This is handy if you are in a centralized sales
location, taking orders for branches around the country, and you want to
ship from the branch nearest the customer.

2. As a security feature, you can keep users out of the address book records
you don't want them to see by securing them out of certain business units
that are setup in this field.

3. Don't use it for anything.

If you are interested in either of the first two uses, you will want to
enter real data in this field. If you go with Door Number 3, then you can
either setup Business Unit 1 or manually key in a different business unit
such as your main balance sheet business unit, into the field.

I didn't mention that as '1' appears to be hardcoded as the default. I
checked the data dictionary and '1' is not coming from the data dictionary
default. So, its up to the users to enter your main balance sheet business
unit or you can setup '1' as a dummy cost center just to get past this.
