Smart Field

I have 2 questions:

1. JDE manual says smart field can be used in
GROUP SECTION, COLUMAR SECTION and TABULAR SECTION.
But is it true? remember seeing it only works in TABULAR.

2. I tried to figured it out by myself but doesn't matter what type report/section I use, the smart field button is always disabled. Any idea why this is happening. or what UBE you know using smart field so I can take a look? I remember seeing some UBEs using it but can not find them now ....

Smart fields are only used in the Financial Reports and are used for retrieving things like the current balance based on the period number/fiscal year etc.
