Deleting package.inf on Citrix Server

Installing update packages on one of our citrix servers has recently (in the past month) been taking much longer than normal. Specifically the part where it is "Finding installed components ...". We are already turning off anti-virus to help speed this up. I also found where deleting the package.inf on the citrix server dramatically improved the install time. Is this OK to do? If so, do you think there is any harm in doing this every time we install a package?
