Oracle get PeopleSoft

How about Oracle selling the "bit formally known as JDE" off to the highest bidder. Any takers?

IBM could use the money it gets from its PC business it just sold in China.

Rumor has it that SSA (Owner of BAAN) has been talking to Oracle even before the buyout to aquire JDE if the merger goes through.

According to CBS Marketwatch article, Oracle wants to combine the three ERP package into a new ERP package in approx. 3 years. I guess it's time for Oracle database training courses.

it sure is ... let's hope we don't fall under that management ... talk about lack of leadership ...
IBM should be just as interested ... if not, there are other white knights out there ... i wouldn't worry too much about this ... whoever ultimately owns the JDE business, it will be JDE customers who will decide the fate of the JDE business ... from what I've sensed so far ... they aren't going anywhere anytime soon ... unless Oracle or Peoplesoft or some other company who will take it over the business does something really stupid with the business ... that would be unlikely ...
kind regards,
paul

Re: RE: Oracle get PeopleSoft

What about TomorrowNow? They support JDE now? Any sense in them taking it all on?

A few more warming thoughts:

- No more IBM stuff included in the Foundation? Surely Oracle will be packaging their own DB into the Foundation now?
- JAS is likely to change to run on Oracle Application Server and Apache, instead of IBM WebSphere and MS IIS?
- What would now happen to strongly IBM-biased "WEB-only" E811? Will they abandon it, or re-work it?
- Quest is a viable user group again?
- Free downloadable Demo Junior coming soon?

There's, probably, plenty more you can come up with...

Interesting FAQs on the oracle site:

Q: How will the former J.D. Edwards product line be treated
under the acquisition?

A: Given the small amount of information PeopleSoft management has shared publicly regarding its plans for the former J.D. Edwards’ products, Oracle is at a disadvantage until we understand what PeopleSoft itself has done and therefore not in a position to provide a detailed product roadmap as hoped. Former J.D. Edwards customers are clearly asking these same questions of PeopleSoft, but we believe they have received no definitive answers. Indeed, PeopleSoft has severed ties with Quest International Users Group, the independent user group for PeopleSoft World and EnterpriseOne users.

Once we are able to meet with PeopleSoft and clarify the current situation, Oracle will be prepared to discuss publicly the ongoing support and maintenance plans for the former J.D. Edwards product line. We hope to be able to offer a similar level of ongoing product support and maintenance to
former J.D. Edwards customers, as well as offering the same free module for-module exchange to the Oracle applications product superset along with Oracle database licenses for the applications.

Q: Will Oracle support the former J.D. Edwards applications running
on the IBM iSeries hardware platform?
A: Yes, though IBM cooperation will be required.
