JDEList,

I need some help regarding package build performance with a new 8.9 =
installation I have just completed.

We are migrating from Xe to 8.9 and have just completed the installation =
of E1 8.9. Our configuration is as follows:

1. Deployment Server - Pentium III 2-way 1.44GHz with 4GB RAM

2. Database Server - DEC Tru64 UNIX running Oracle 9.2.0.4

3. 100Mb full duplex backbone

Package build takes approximately 20 hours with 8 of those hours spent =
building GBRSPEC.

Is this something I am just going to have to live with?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you have to offer.

James

I would guess that something might not be right with your network connection between the deployment server and the database server. What portion of gbrspec takes a long time, build the specs or generating the index?

What about anti-virus? Any anti-virus running will kill your package build
times.

James,

1. What is your Enterprise Server?
2. Was the 20 hours just for the Client Package or is that Client + Server packages?
3. 100MB backbone is slow by today's standard in my opinion
4. What speed are the NIC cards for the DS and DB boxes?
5. Consider installing separate NICs (faster - 1GB) on the servers to a sub-lan / GB route.
6. How old is that DEC box? Kudos to you guys for taking a brave step like that though.

FYI we also have upgraded to 8.9 from XE.
Our full package build times are:
Client: - 3.45 hours
Server: - .45 hours

Configuration:
DS: Dell 2-way 3.06Ghz (1mb processor cache), 2GB RAM, Raid 5
ES: Dell 4-way 2.8Ghz (2mb processor Cache), 6GB Ram, Raid 0+1
Network backbone and NICs are 1GBS
Oracle 9.2.04
