Multiple Security Servers

has anyone ever used more than one security server?
if you did, how does it work as in when the primary server fails for some reason does the authorization automatically runs through the second server even if one was already logged on before it happened?

NumServers=3
SecurityServer=JDE1
SecurityServer1=JDE2
SecurityServer2=JDE3

I wouldn´t know waht happens when one server failed after logon. Let us know.
