We have been running cash basis for about a year and a half on XE. It works (kind of) we have written a couple of UBEs to help it along. If your implementing, I suggest you focus your testing on subledgers, taxes, voids and reversals in any and all possible combinations.
We still have some transactions that have to be reviewed and corrected manually.
