Removing JDFDATA

KENNEY

Well Known Member
We are badly in need of disk space on an old machine which is due to be
replaced anyday. I have been going through and deleting libraries (after
backing up of course) which are not necessary for our day-to-day
operations. I have deleted JDFSRC already and am about to delete JDFDATA.

My question is can think of any flaws in deleting the JDFDATA library.

Thankyou

If you have no reason to go into JDE Pristine then there should be no reason to keep JDFDATA around.

I am not sure about if that is used during any Upgrades or such but If you have it on tape then you could always get it back anyway.

Nope, as long as you have it backed up and return it to your new machine.
It isn't used for day-to-day stuff but for any future ptf's, it will be.
Have you also reorganized any files with deleted records?? F98301 can get
out of hand as well as some P/R and A/P files. What about files like F0101A
and F0082H. These can get big if not purged to a reasonable date.

Kenney,

We were in the same situation as you for several years and I did the same
thing.
The only disadvantage with not having JDFDATA is if you discover a file that
is missing
and you would need to recreate it in production.
We ran for several years without both libraries and it did not have any
serious impact.

Upgrades of J.D. Edwards software remove and replace objects and data from
JDFOBJ,JDFSRC AND JDFDATA.

Kenny,

In additional to removing (or in place of removing) JDFDATA, don't forget to
review any and all copies of F42199.

There are no flows of deleting JDFDATA. Actually I'll keep JDFSRC and delete
JDFDATA.

The only valid use of keeping JDFDATA is if you have problems with any JDE
programs in your production environment, before calling JDE help support you can
signon to JDE vanilla environment to test it to ensure it's not a JDE bug.

Mike,

as several replies already stated, make sure to have a backup of this
library and get ready to be asked to restore it (and then you won't have
enough room, eh eh eh ...!!!) when you'll install new pieces of software.

Additionally, rather than listing specific files which dimension can grow
in a different way from business to business, I recommend that you run
every night an easy CL and a couple of easy queries that will provide you
every morning with every detailed and/or summarized informations about disk
occupation.

This will allow you to concentrate your effort on the really biggest
beasts.

If you are interested, contact me directly and I can send you my CL and my
queries

Kenny,

F42199 can be used for system generated credit orders (P42025). Purge with
caution.

Re: R:Removing JDFDATA

Thanks for all replies, we can put this one to bed now. By deleting
the JDESRC and JDFDATA the storage dropped from 80% to 71%. And
by the way the system is on its way out we are already in the process of
setting up its replacement so I shouldn't need to perform anymore CUMs.
